This was originally intended as an anecdotal genealogy website dedicated to putting a personality on those that have passed before, specifically those that I have heard stories about or even knew personally. But it has gradually changed to cemetery statuary, and as it was at first, featuring celebreties. For my personal links go to the end of the blog, Spencer G Corkum

Clarabelle and Billy De Wolfe

New link to Billy De Wolfe's monument in Quincy MA added to Celeb Links. He prefered driving his Caddy called Clarabelle between coasts. Must've been a long trip in the 1940s before the highways of today.

I told you I was sick

In Europe families enjoy the outdoor park-like setting of cemeteries picnicking next to their family stones. I find the statuary and headstones afford my wanderer's imagination the chance to speculate on someone's life struggles and how we view the passage of time. Today computers can etch color photos on stones within a couple of weeks. But I like phrases and comments best of all. Many are well known and often repeated, like I told you I was sick.

Elergy in a Churchyard

Al Capp, the real life Li'l Abner, has a very touching, and sad really, quote on his memory stone. The plowman homeward plods his weary way, And leaves the world to darkness and to me. This is from the poem Elergy in a Churchyard 1751 by Thomas Gray.

reflecting on time

I think everyone should have a memory stone and whether their remains are there or not is irrelevant. Everything below the ground is irrelevant, only the monument to memory is of interest. I like the beauty of a park like cemetery. A gentle quiet place to reflect on time.
