This was originally intended as an anecdotal genealogy website dedicated to putting a personality on those that have passed before, specifically those that I have heard stories about or even knew personally. But it has gradually changed to cemetery statuary, and as it was at first, featuring celebreties. For my personal links go to the end of the blog, Spencer G Corkum

The old and the new....?

Churchill's Stone

I got started, I would have to say, cycling upcountry where I often took breaks biking through small cemeteries reading headstones. Then online got interested viewing headstones of celebrities. Next, I got into reading about the history of cemeteries in this country. From there statuary, and now here I am, where soon enough I am going.

There are those who do not want to be buried
under the ground. If true this implies the assumption
the spirit is locked in the body.

The flesh when young, is a beautiful promise, but the end can be cumbersome. Click the link Abandoned below.

Click > Graveyard  Abandoned in 1978   suspended!

I always think of the many beautiful cemeteries I've visited and cycled through. But this link above connects to all kinds of other abandoned graveyards, and other properties, such as Liberace's restored mansion, abandoned institutions and other structures.

Rutger Hauer

Tears in the Rain

I''ve seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter down the dark near Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments lost in time, like tears... in the rain

...Time to die.

From the film Bladerunner, based on a story, Do Adroids Dream of Electric Sheep?, written by Phillip K. Dick in 1968. He died at 53 four months before the release of Bladerunner.  Paraphrased.

Underlined verse in Peggy's God's Promises for when you are hurting by Jack Countryman 1915.
Romans 14:7-8

                      I remember Peggy.

View from Peggy's family stone, with the flag, where our ashes will be co-mingled.

Bob Dylan

Bob Dylan Longer than alive

“The first thing you notice about New Orleans are the burying grounds - the cemeteries - and they're a cold proposition, one of the best things there are here. Going by, you try to be as quiet as possible, better to let them sleep. Greek, Roman, sepulchres- palatial mausoleums made to order, phantomesque, signs and symbols of hidden decay - ghosts of women and men who have sinned and who've died and are now living in tombs. The past doesn't pass away so quickly here.
You could be dead for a long time”

Street of Stones

Let's talk of graves, of worms, and epitaphs;
Make dust our paper and with rainy eyes
Write sorrow on the bosom of the earth,
Let's choose executors and talk of wills”

Qeustions with answers not yet

Life is so short, it is hard to account of all the missing time, and missing people. So where are we going? Why do we see the short comings of the past so clearly too late? Why are there so many questions? New ones arise in the night. Why have so many lived and are now gone in a wisp of time without comprehension?

The grave is the threshold to eternity

Everything once existing may change, but nothing is ever lost. If this is thought to be true in science perhaps it is also true in the great mystery.  Inscription on Claude Rains headstone, 1889-1967. "All things once are things forever. Soul once living lives forever."

Never lean on the arm of flesh..

No matter how long I live, if I don't run out of time and my flesh never fails me, of what desire is there in living among younger people unknown to me? Does anyone expect the pains and aches will forget me? Can I expect the young will want to jump fences with me?  Time fools us all, even as we speak.

The spirit quickens the body...

The body  flourishes then wastes  away.  Sometimes  I wonder if the body can die, leaving the spirit to animate the body by itself. Eventually the older I get, sooner than I expect, I will walk alone. And in the end that is time for you, it always runs out for the flesh. In that day, I want to be ready for the next move. The next move is always mine.

Out of nothing...

....came the big bang. Isn't that something now? There is no time in eternity, it is generally agreed, what then makes us believe there is expanding space? What is seen all comes from the unseen. Some physical scientists suggest time is an allusion. Maybe space is too!

OK to die......

To build falth in the afterlife I believe in saying so. I always even repeat a person's name when introduced to help me remember it. Since it turned to be OK when I was born, I figure it will be OK to die.  However, I do not think it will be that OK right this particular second.
